GET OUT THERE
Adventure Bag Program
“Equipping underrepresented youth to experience the great outdoors.”
For 60 years, KOA has been connecting people to the outdoors and each other. Getting outdoors has been proven by science to improve mental health, physical health, and entire life trajectories.
As KOA’s North American Camping Report (like to NACR) outlines, camping has never been more popular, more diverse, and more engaged in by new demographics. In fact, camping is at an all-time high, with 19 million NEW families planning to camp for the first time this year. We also know from our research that not everyone has the same level of access to the outdoors.
In 2018 KOA founded the “Get Out There Grant” to fund people’s dreams of outdoor adventure with free vacations. But we knew we could do more.
When Anker came to us with the idea of partnering on a “get out there” program, we knew that their mission of creating “a world where nothing holds you back from where you want to go, or what you want to do” was a perfect fit for KOA’s mission.
So we put our heads together about how we could best accomplish our goal of getting underrepresented kids and their adults “out there” into the great outdoors and together – we created the “Get Out There Adventure Bag” – an outdoor duffle bag filled with everything you need to Get Out There in the Great Outdoors!
The bag is a collection of top-tier outdoor products from our KOA partners like, Coleman, Backcountry, RTIC, Zippo and others. In 2023 we will pilot this program in New York City in collaboration with major community centers and youth programs. Kids will submit a short application about why they want to Get Outdoors and the winners (selected by the local community centers) will receive a Get Out There Adventure Bag.
